Paswan seeks NIC meet on Ayodhya
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI
FEB. 7.
The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) today joined protests over the Centre's move to approach the Supreme Court on the Ayodhya issue and demanded that the National Integration Council meeting be called to discuss the issue.
"Ayodhya is an issue that concerns the nation. The Prime Minister should convene a meeting of the National Integration Council to discuss it,'' the LJP chief, Ram Vilas Paswan, said here in a statement.
Mr. Paswan, who quit the Vajpayee Cabinet following the Gujarat riots, questioned the `silence' of the secular allies in the Government. He sought to know whether they were toeing the line of the VHP-RSS on the Ayodhya issue.
Referring to the VHP demand that the Government hand over the undisputed site, Mr. Paswan said: "We are not aware what are the temple building plans and if the disputed site is part of it." He said it was time for all secular and democratic parties to collectively oppose the move.
