Testifying before the Special Judge-I, R. Rajamanickam, the IO, N. Nallamma Naidu, a former Superintendent of Police, Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, said 914 silk sarees were found during the search and they were evaluated by one Chengalvorayan on December 16, 1996. Also evaluation of nearly 714 suitcases, 386 pairs of chappals and 91 wristwatches were done. The gold and diamond jewellery, which were seized, were evaluated by a Customs Appraiser, Vasudevan. The seized jewellery was kept in the sub-treasury office at Nandanam. As regards the silver articles, after evaluation, they were kept safely in a room at the Poes Garden residence of Ms. Jayalalithaa. Mr. Naidu said he also gathered details regarding the salary and allowances of Ms. Jayalalithaa. Particulars regarding the vehicles involved in the case were collected from regional transport offices. In October 1996, teams were sent to assess the buildings which figured in the case.
