Listing the misuse of powers as highlighted in the media and instances of development works now under way in the Assembly constituency, he said only if vigil was kept, could there be a small check on the ``gigantic scale of irregularities''. Mr. Karunanidhi said the AIADMK Government had backtracked on many issues in the past. For instance, after having declared that there was no question of rethink on noon meal for farmers, the Government conceded the Opposition demand for supply of rice. In another instance, the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, criticised a Madras High Court decision in the Assembly and the very next day, came out with a clarification in the House.
