Jammu & Kashmir
By Our Staff Reporter
JAMMU. FEB. 7. The ruling People's Democratic Party has been recognised by the Election Commission as a State party and allotted the symbol of inkpot and pen. It is the second registered and recognised State party after the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. The PDP has come a long way since it was founded in June 1999 as a regional alternative to the National Conference. The upswing for the party in the electoral politics came when it became a leading partner in the first-ever multi-party Ministry after the general elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly last November.
