Stressing on the freedom of the media, he said showing intolerance to it was a mean act. The police action of raiding the premises of a reporter's residence was only a warning signal against the media, he said. The Government's intention was that no reports critical of its policies should appear. Such actions are unleashed not only against the media, but also against politicians, advocates et al, he said. He cited the instance of a case `framed' against an advocate after he had taken up the legal issue regarding the construction of a bund across the Bhavani River. Creating `yes men' as the Government intends, is against the very concept of democracy, he argued. He congratulated the Ernakulam Press Club for having taken up the core issue in right earnest. K.P. Rajendran, CPI Legislature Party leader, said despite the clamour on transparency, it was lacking in Government actions of late. The INTUC leader, K.P. Haridas, M.A. John, M. Padmanabhan and others spoke.
