Govt. sending official to UAE next week

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Feb. 7. The Minister for Non-Resident Keralites Affairs, M.M. Hassan, has said that the Government would send a senior official to the United Arab Emirates next week to work out the travel plans and other modalities of Malayalis who are returning to the State under the Amnesty scheme being offered by the UAE Government.

Launching the ambulance service of the All Kerala Pravasi Malayalee Welfare Association (AKPMWA) at the `Pravasi Sangamom' organised here today, the Minister said the State Government official will hold talks with officials of the UAE Government and Indian embassy officials in the UAE as hundreds of Malayalis are expected to return to the State under the amnesty scheme.

Pointing out that all political parties, social, religious and charity organisations survive in the State mainly on the Non-Resident Keralites, especially the Gulf Malayalis, Mr. Hassan said the Government was trying to involve the Non-Resident Keralites in the development activities of the State.

The Government is trying to create a climate for attracting investment to the State and to make the Government machinery investor-friendly. The Minister said the State Government will take steps to provide training to those Malayalis who return from the Gulf countries, and jobs.

The NORKA Minister said the Government had starting paying more attention to solving the problems faced by the Gulf Malayalis. Several associations have come up to help Gulf returnees and they are creating problems as complaints about their functioning are being brought to my notice, he said.

Earlier, inaugurating the `Pravasi sangamom', the KPCC president, K. Muraleedharan, MP, who is also the chairman of the association, said the Government should create a conducive atmosphere for taking up development activities in the State using the funds of the Gulf Malayalis.
