Benoy plea to scrap KSIDC pact with Cola

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Feb. 7. The CPI deputy Legislature party leader, Benoy Viswam, has called upon the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) to cancel its agreement with Coca-Cola for setting up a tender coconut processing and marketing unit.

In a statement here today, Mr. Viswam said the agreement, signed between the KSIDC and Coca-Cola in late January, would leave indigenous tender coconut processing and marketing units bankrupt.

Coca-Cola is planning to use the technology developed by the Coconut Development Board and the Defence Food Research Laboratory.

If Coca-Cola is permitted to market tender coconut water, which had been upheld as an alternative to Coca-Cola products, its consequences would not be small.
