The landmines were embedded under black-topped road at Santoshpuram between Neelakantapuram and Mondemkhal, the claymore mines near Chenchayyaguda between Modemkhan and G. Sivada. The naxalites produced at the press conference were : Chelluru Rudra Murty alias Naresh (22), Area Committee member of SGS, of Bhatupuram village in Vajrapukothuru mandal in Srikakulam district, Vulaka Pothayya alias Kishore (21), a tribal, and Vurlaka Venkata Rao alias Venkanna (30), both belong to Ulipiri in Komarada mandal in Vizianagaram district. While Naresh and Kishore were booked under the POTA for the Parvathipuram police station blast, Venkanna was booked for for providing food and shelter to the duo under the APPS Act. Dr. Soumya Mishra said that with the arrest of Naresh, the activities of the People's War in the zone, including Gajapathi and Bastar districts in the neighbouring border States were exposed. She said that Naresh was arrested during vehicle-checking at Komarada. Having inspired by revolutionary songs and literature, Naresh, an expert in explosives and communications, joined as a dalam member in September 2000, and rose to the present position within two years. The SP said Naresh was involved in 19 offences, including landmine blasts at Gotlapadra in Orissa in which seven CRPF jawans were killed. Kalanara (15 Orissa Special Police personnel injured) and the Uppalapada AOP attack in which one constable was killed and eight SLRs, one 0.9 mm pistol and one machine gun were snatched. He was also involved in the killing of a police constable at Dandakaranya, an informer in west Bastar and in the ambush at Bastar in which two constables were killed and two SLRs snatched. In Srikakulam district, he triggered a landmine blast in which the Palakonda DSP travelling in a jeep was severely injured. He had also blasted Bhamini MRO office, attacked rice mill at Nulakajodu and snatched walkie-talkies from Barua and Mandasa railway stations. In Vizianagaram district, he blasted the MRO office two times in GL Puram, Parvathipuram police station, forest official quarter at Mondemkhal and murdered Balebabu in the same village. Naresh said that during the last three years the PW had not taken up any issue to help tribals in the agency area of the district. Instead, he said, the former dalam commander, Shyam of Deruwada LGS, raped a tribal girl at Vankabadi in GL Puram mandal.
