BJP determined to make bandh a success

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Feb. 7. Having called a State-wide bandh more than a decade later, the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Tuesday's bandh to protest against the "spree of killings by members of DJS'' and the failure of police intelligence is a grand success.

The party unit in the State capital has been holding a series of meetings of "padadhikaris'' of different Assembly segments to devise strategies for an effective organisation of the bandh. The city unit would also be taking out a scooter rally on Sunday and organise division-wise padayatras on Monday to educate people on the need to register their protest against the blatant killings and ISI activities in the State.

``We have instructed our cadre to organise the bandh peacefully. We will stop buses, but not damage them. If shops are opened, we will go and request them to close and explain the reasons for the bandh,'' the city BJP president, Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, and the general secretary, Venkataramani, asserted at a press conference here on Friday.

Sunday's scooter rally will culminate in a public meeting at Mahatma Gandhi statue in Secunderabad where the State president, Chilakam Ramachandra Reddy, and party MLAs would speak. Party cadres would distribute pamphlets all over the city during their padayatras on Monday. "Our intention is only to enlighten people about the activities of DJS at the behest of the ISI and the police failure in containing them. There are no political overtones to this bandh,'' Mr. Reddy asserted.

Referring to the membership drive launched by the party, he said 1.75 lakh people were enrolled in the party in the 100 divisions of the Municipal Corporation. He thanked party workers for enthusiastically participating in the drive.
