The Bench comprising the Chief Justice, J. L. Gupta, and Justice M. Ramachandran ordered posting of the hearing on the affidavit along with the review petition which would be taken up for hearing on February 13. In its affidavit, the Government said that in view of the prevailing local needs, it had some practical difficulties in complying with the directive of the Bench, regarding the 25 per cent seats allotted to the Government. The affidavit also said that the State Government was desirous of seriously pursuing the review petition with regard to the entire 50 per cent seats earmarked for the Government quota before the verdict was delivered. In its judgment reducing the Government quota from 50 per cent to 25 per cent, the court had ordered that if the Government failed to fill up the 25 per cent seats from the list prepared by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations within one week, the management could fill up these seats from the candidates, belonging to the weaker sections from the list prepared by the management. The plea for extending this deadline was earlier rejected by the Bench.
