Siemens' aggressive plans

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLKATA FEB. 7. Siemens has chalked out a retail visibility programme strengthening the distribution and dealer network for its cellular handset products to recover the lost grounds. Though it foresees substantial growth in the CDMA-WLL mobile phone segment, the company cannot exploit the same as it has no access to the technology.

According to company sources, with the cellular handset industry expected to register a robust growth this year, Siemen's information and communication-mobile phones division (ICM-MP) has set an `aggressive growth target' for the current fiscal.

Siemens, at present ranked fourth in terms of market share, has planned to launch new models with local language interface during the fiscal. The market penetration efforts, including the appointment of nationwide distributors and opening up of customer care and service centres, have resulted in a spurt in the company's handset sales.

Meanwhile, the company's other communications business enterprise networks division has registered 24 per cent growth in revenue last fiscal.
