Godhra: cleric detained

Ahmedabad Feb. 6. In a major breakthrough in the Sabarmati Express carnage case, the Gujarat police this morning detained a cleric at Godhra on charge of masterminding the ghastly crime last year.

As soon as the news about Maulana Hussain Umarji's detention spread, members of the minority community called a bandh in the town. Godhra was scene of uneasy peace and tension as the authorities tightened security to avoid any untoward incident. — UNI
