Inquiry into missing Uphaar documents

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI JAN. 31. A Delhi court today referred the case of alleged disappearance of documents relating to the Uphaar fire tragedy case to the District Judge requesting him to order an inquiry into it.

The Additional Sessions Judge, Mamata Sehagal, said in her brief order that she had sent the matter along with all the details to the District Judge to get the case enquired by a competent judicial official.

In the meanwhile, Ms. Sehagal asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file photocopies of the original missing documents along with an affidavit to take the copies on record s secondary evidence.

The matter came to light early this week when counsel for the CBI urged the court to take on record photocopies of certain copies submitting that these documents were missing from the court file of the case.

The Judge had then immediately directed the record-keeper of the court to file a report on the missing papers. The record- keeper in his report had admitted that the papers were missing.

Thereafter, the Judge passed an order on Friday urging the District Judge to order an inquiry into the matter.
