State Media Awards announced

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM JAN. 31. The State Media Awards for 2002 in general reporting goes to Cherukara Sunny Lukose of `Kerala Sabdham', the Minister for Information, M. M. Hassan, announced here Friday.

The awards in developmental reporting and news photography were won respectively by Rajiv Mathew of `Deepika' and C. K. Jayakrishnan of `Mathruboomi' dailies. Yesudasan of `Malayala Manorama' bagged the State Award for cartoon. K. K. Shahina of Asianet won the award for television news report. The awards carry Rs. 10,000 each.Mr. Sunny Lukose won the award for his report on the accused in the Hamsa murder case (Kasaragod) who was in judicial custody for the past ten years pending trial of the case. Mr. Mathew's report was about the plight of tea workers.

Mr. Jayakrishnan's photo of women activists manhandling Dr. Jameela of Ernakulam General Hospital, alleging corruption, won him the award. Yesudasan's cartoon, titled `Oorukoottam', was about encroachment of forests at Mathikettan.
