Awareness rally on energy conservation

KOLLAM Jan. 31. Students and elders from all walks of life participated in an impressive awareness rally on energy conservation organised here today jointly by the Energy Conservation Society (ECS) and the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).

The rally which was flagged off by the Kollam MP, P. Rajendran, from the railway station complex here, was led by the IOC manager, R. Subramaniyam, the actor, O. Madhavan, the former KSEB chief engineer, M.L. Anidharan, the DEO, Kamalamma, the secretary of the Kollam Public Library, K. Ravindranathan Nair, the Kerlashabdam editor, B.A. Rajakrishnan, the former Janayugam editor, Thengamam Balakrishnan, and the ECS office-bearers, P.O.J. Lebba and S. Ratnakumar.

Paintings on energy conservation by the noted artists, Levi Ravikumar, Jyothilal, Mandalam Sathyababu and Kollam Santosh, added colour to the rally. Students carried placards on conservation of electricity, oil and water.

The rally concluded at the Jawahar Bal Bhavan.

Inaugurating a seminar later, Mr. Rajendran said that linking arts in the field of awareness campaigns of energy conservation appeared to be highly productive. A street play on energy conservation was also presented on the ocassion.
