Wisden Online's new rating method

Mumbai Jan. 31. Wisden Online has devised a unique ball-by-ball player analysis and World Cup ratings for the cricket buffs. The heart of the new feature is the assessment of an international cricketer against his opponents. Wisden Online applies its own proprietary software and records up to 30 variables for every delivery bowled in all Tests and major one-day internationals. The dedicated cricket website has dissected 750,632 balls from 63 Tests and 159 one-day internationals and will add many more to it in the future.

It has used this database to compute the Wisden World Cup Ratings, a new index for all limited over internationals performances for all the players in the forthcoming World Cup in South Africa.

Wisden India Managing Director Yajurvindra Singh said:

"Cricket has been in a flux by new technologies and analysing programmes. This has precipitated the desire to get a better insight and appreciation of a player's performance.

Wisden, the keeper and innovator of cricket records, has used its wealth of knowledge to bring to the enthusiasts, comparisons that would take them to a microscopic level of appreciating the game.''
