Rupee rules steady

MUMBAI JAN. 31. The Indian currency ended barely changed against the U.S. currency today, clinging to its overnight fragile gains in generally quiet but cautious trade at the interbank foreign exchange market.

Closing at 47.8000/8050 a dollar, little changed from Thursday's finish of 47.80/81, the rupee traded in a tight range of 47.7950 and 47.8225, wedged between light dollar demand from State-run banks and a steady flow of dollars from exporters and expatriate Indian remittances.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) fixed the reference rate for the U.S. currency at Rs. 47.80 a dollar — PTI
