Sushma for affordable healthcare

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI Jan. 31. Giving a slogan of "Healthy Nation, Secure Nation", the new Union Health Minister, Sushma Swaraj, today said that her main aim would be to provide basic health services to people at affordable cost.

Speaking to reporters soon after taking charge, Ms. Swaraj said that though it may take some time for her to set out her priorities in detail as she had to first have detailed discussions with the Ministry officials, the action plan would be based on the concept that for a nation to be secure, its people should be in good health.

When asked to comment on her stand as the Information and Broadcasting Minister on the issue of condom-based advertising for the anti-AIDS campaign, she said the campaign should not focus on the condom aspect alone, as there were other causes also for HIV/ AIDS, apart from unsafe sex.

Defending her predecessor, Shatrughan Sinha, she said it was unfair to say that he did not pay adequate attention to his responsibilities as a Minister. "The complaints against Mr. Shatrughan Sinha are baseless".
