PATNA Jan. 31. The Rabri Devi Government today appointed D.P. Ojha, currently DG Vigilance, as the new Bihar Director-General of Police in place of R.R. Prasad who retired today, and took the opportunity to effect a major shuffle in the higher echelons of the police set up and the Home Department for a better performance on the law and order front. Mr. Ojha will assume charge tomorrow.

The Administrative Reforms and Personnel Secretary, B.K. Halder, takes over as the Home Secretary from R.J.M. Pillai who has been transferred as the Vigilance Commissioner, while the ADG CID, Ashish Ranjan, comes in place of Mr. Ojha.

The DG-cum-Commandant General, Home Guards, Santosh Kumar, who was also in the race for the top post, has been given additional charge of CID in the same capacity. The RJD president, Laloo Prasad Yadav, said the only consideration in the appointment of the new DGP was his seniority and that the objective was to present a new team which would deliver the goods. He said the Government wanted results and hoped that the new team would be able to tone up the law and order situation.
