McMahon, new Vice-Chief of Air Staff

NEW DELHI JAN. 31. M. McMahon has been appointed new Vice-Chief of Air Staff at Air Headquarters here, replacing S.G. Inamdar, who retired today. Air Marshal McMahon had participated in the 1965 and 1971 operations and was "mentioned-in-dispatches'' in each.

His appointment has led to a minor reshuffle of officers. Air Marshal McMahon's position as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) South-Western Air Command has been taken by S.P. Tyagi, who was till date AOC-in-C Central Air Command. The new AOC-in-C Central Air Command replacing Air Marshal Tyagi will be B.M. Bali.

This command also gets a new Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) in Ajit Bhawnani who takes over from Air Marshal Bali.The present Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Intelligence), S.Y. Savur, on promotion as Air Marshal, will take over as SASO of Eastern Air Command.

He will be replaced at the Air Headquarters by P.K. Mehra.
