Jharkhand bandh peaceful

Ranchi Jan. 31. Over 300 people were taken into custody as the CPI (ML) sponsored dawn-to-dusk Jharkhand bandh, which evoked partial response, passed off peacefully today.

There was no reports of any untoward incident from anywhere in the State, police said.

The CPI, CPI (M), Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch, Marxist Coordination Committee and Koel Karo Jan Sanghatan supported the bandh call to mount pressure on the Marandi Government to arrest the policemen responsible for the Markachau firing on January 22 and the culprits of the earlier firings at Doranda, Tapkari, Semri-Banjara, Bokaro, Chowbe and Ghindri in different districts in the past two months.

In Ranchi, 108 bandh supporters, including the CPI (ML)'s Central committee member and Mahendra Singh, MLA, and the party's State secretary, Subhendu Sen, were taken into custody. — PTI
