Letters to the Editor
Sir, It is shocking that five Ministers of the Orissa Cabinet did not hoist the national flag on Republic Day. Respecting the Tricolour is the foremost fundamental duty of every citizen as per Article 51-A of the Constitution. If a Minister, who has sworn allegiance to the Constitution, fails to discharge his constitutional duties, how can a common man be expected to be faithful to the Constitution? The Chief Minister should relieve the Ministers of their posts immediately.
S. Nallasivan,
Sir, In a major goof-up, the Congress hoisted its party flag instead of the national flag on January 26 in Hyderabad. The misunderstanding was the result of the similarity between the Tricolour and the Congress flag, which is a serious anomaly. With many illiterate voters in the country, the Congress may gain in elections as a result of this similarity. The Election Commission must, therefore, try to remove the anomaly, which gives one party an advantage over others.
K.G. Acharya,
