Mambalam residents seek better civic amenities

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI JAN. 20. Congested Mambalam still continues to face unhealthy civic conditions and bad roads despite several representations have been made to authorities.

In a face-to-face meet at the Exnora International office, participants said traffic congestion was a major problem on Lakshmi Street, Ellaiyamman Koil Street and Rangappa Reddy Street besides the junction of Arya Gowda Road, Satyapuri Street and Brindavan Street. The Madley Road and Easwaran Koil Street Junction, which has six schools in the area, require regulation from the traffic police.

The roads were in a very bad state at Lakshmi Narayana Street, Baroda Street, Lake View Road and Ramakrishna Puram III Street after the monsoon rain. During rainy season, there was a problem of severe water-logging at Sampangi Street calling for desilting of all the stormwater drains. "Water enters all our houses and we have also had some snakes coming in along with it", said a resident of the street.

The residents also called for a permanent solution to the totally unhygienic conditions around the Kothandaraman Temple tank. They suggested that the traffic congestion could be reduced if the 20 feet road was developed.

T. Krishnan, a resident of Sampangi Street said that the residents were facing acute water crisis as all the main source of water and wells have gone dry.
