D. Ganesan (31) was reported to have committed suicide, ``having been caught in debt trap'' in taking up samba cultivation at Aavarani this season. According to a petition submitted to the Collector by D. Rukmani, Ganesan's mother, the farmer took up cultivation on one and half acres, belonging to another person, by taking loan from his friends and also spending the money earned from his own kiosk at Sikkal. However, on witnessing the crop withering for want of water, he got dejected. Ganesan, who left the house on January 17, never returned home. Meanwhile, family members came to know that the Tiruvarur Railway Police had seized a male body with its head severed, near the Kilvelore station. On making enquiries with the Railway police, the family found that it was Ganesan's corpse.
