Addressing the 54th general council meeting of the NIRD here on Monday, Mr. Patil said the park was useful to showcase the rural technologies relevant for small and marginal farmers and small and tiny entrepreneurs in rural areas. He lauded the NIRD as a think tank of the ministry. `We consider NIRD as the eyes and ears of the ministry'. Both NIRD, Hyderabad, and its regional centre at Guwahati are associated with evaluation/impact assessment studies of various schemes of the ministry which gave them the necessary feedback on the ground realities besides imparting the much needed field-level experience to the NIRD faculty, he added. The Minister asked the NIRD to disseminate the findings and recommendations of its Rapid Research Group set up to carry out quick studies of assessment as and when an emergency situation arose, the proposed study on urban-rural disparities and the implications of rural poverty reduction policies. The NIRD Director-General, A.V.S. Reddy, said the NIRD was taking steps to develop the rural technology park with a two-pronged approach. The minister released the fourth and last volume of the directory on rural technologies brought out by NIRD.
