Earth caves in, 4 buried alive

KHAMMAM JAN. 20. Four persons were killed as a huge mound of earth caved in while they were digging a well near Chandrupatla village of Kallur mandal on Monday.

The police said 12 persons were working on the spot. Rescue efforts made by onlookers failed to save the lives of those trapped inside the well.

The victims were Totapalli Venkateswarlu (30), P. Venkateswarlu (30), Parigadupu Ramulu (35) and Kinnera Gangaiah (30). A farmer, hit by drought conditions, had engaged them all for digging the well in a bid to save the standing crops. Investigation is on.
