The samiti Chairman, G. Made Gowda, said in Mandya today that in case the Government could not comply with its assurance to supply water to save the standing crops, then the authorities should assess the crop loss and pay crop compensation at the market rate. Seeking an explanation for the Government's action in releasing water to Tamil Nadu when the four major reservoirs in the Cauvery Basin in Karnataka had almost dried up, the samiti said the Government should also explain to the farmers how it planned to fulfil its assurance to them. If the Government was unable to ensure adequate water supply, the authorities should also write off the loans taken by the farmers. Mr. Made Gowda said arrangements should be made for drinking water and fodder for cattle. He threatened to take recourse to legal action in case the State Government failed to meet the samiti's demands.
