State-wide preventive detention drive

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Jan. 17. The police have launched a State-wide preventive detention drive to forestall any disruption of the Global Investor Meet that begins in Kochi tomorrow.

Though the police refused to officially confirm such a drive, there are reports that a number of people, mainly activists of the CPI(ML) and others who the police view as potential threats to the GIM, have been rounded up from different parts of the State.

In the city, the police arrested eight activists of the `Quit Kerala' organisation who were on a dharna in front of the Secretariat. According to the city police commissioner, these people were arrested when they obstructed the police from removing the pandal which the activists were erecting for the dharna.
