CITU to ignore DGP's notice

By Our Staff Reporter

THRISSUR JAN. 17. The CITU State secretary, M. Chandran, has said that his organisation would hold the Secretariat siege as scheduled on January 28, defying the notice issued by the DGP, K.J. Joseph, against it. Addressing a press conference here today, Mr. Chandran pointed out that people have a legitimate right to protest against the policies of the Government which affect them adversely and the permission of the DGP was not required for it. He said only fascist rulers would say that all their policies should be approved by the people, and the present Government appeared to be moving in that direction. Replying to questions, he said even though the CITU would not organise any blockade against the ensuing GIM in Kochi, the organisation would not permit the indiscriminate sale of natural resources to industrialists.

He said the CITU district committee would organise a collectorate blockade on January 28 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., to coincide with the Secretariat siege to be held on that day.
