The AIADMK Government, which revived the Rs. 720-crore project, aimed at supplying water to Chennai from the Veeranam tank located in the tail-end of the Cauvery, is determined to implement it despite opposition from the Congress, the DMK, the CPI and the PMK. Ms. Jayalalithaa would also dedicate development projects, which were already completed, and announce new sanctioned works to be taken up, besides handing over assistance to beneficiaries under welfare schemes, the sources said. Last evening, the Local Administration Minister, M.C. Sampath, held discussions with the Collector, S. Thangaswami, on arrangements to be made for the visit.
