TDP supporter done to death

SRIKAKULAM Jan. 17. A 65-year-old TDP supporter was killed on Thursday evening at Kuppili in Etcherla mandal of the district. Trouble began when a group of TDP revellers and the Congress supporters clashed near the bus stand on Thursday evening after a tiff. Supporters of the Congress and the TDP attacked one another with stones and sticks and houses were ransacked. In the clashes, two others, said to be Congress supporters, were injured. A. Sitaramulu of the TDP was waylaid and done to death by Vakadu Ramu and 26 others of the Congress, it was alleged in the complaint lodged with the police. When Sitaramulu was passing by, Ramu, a woman, threw hot water and chilli powder at him. Later he was attacked with iron rods, bottles and a crowbar, it was alleged. Kuppili had a record of group rivalries.

Police said the pan shop of V Krishna Reddy and a wayside hotel were attacked with stones and sticks by N Krishna Reddy and others. Also about 10 to 15 houses said to be those of Congress supporters were attacked, doors broken, foodgrains bags thrown out and other household belongings damaged, it was learnt.
