According to an announcement, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade today issued a notification placing garlic under the free category of imports. However, in order to safeguard the interests of the domestic producers, the Government had recently notified raising the import duty on garlic from 35 per cent to 100 per cent. Until now, imports of garlic were restricted and import licences were required for such imports. However, with the lifting of QRs in the product, issuance of licence will no longer be required for the imports of the product.
