Retail trading in G-secs

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN. 16. The Government today provided the small investor with another opportunity to play the stock market by allowing retail trading in Government securities (G-secs).

Now, for as low as Rs. 1,000 investment, any investor will be able to participate in the trade of G-secs which are sovereign paper and, thus, very safe. RBI, as banker to the Government, regularly services the payment of interest and principal on these securities, which are tradable and can be used as collateral for loans.
