Speaking to presspersons after a meeting chaired by Mr. Krishna and attended by himself and senior officers, the Water Resource Minister of Karnataka, H. K. Patil, however, did not specify the exact quantum of extra water to be released. The Minister, accompanied by the Chief Secretary, B. S. Patil, said that Tamil Nadu would get on an average 1,200 cusecs for 60 days. At present, 1,780 cusecs of water was already ensured at the Biligundlu water gauging station. Mr. Patil said that after seven days, the quantum of water would be reduced to the average level. To questions on the exact quantum of ``more water'' that Karnataka was ready to release and whether that would be in line with the Prime Minister's request, Mr. Patil said the Prime Minister had asked for higher release. ``Anything beyond 1,200 cusecs was higher and more than 50 per cent was substantial'', he added.
