Man murders sister-in-law after failed rape bid

BANGALORE JAN. 11 . A 21-year-old man allegedly murdered his sister-in-law after she spurned his advances, at their house in Hebbugodi police station limits in Bangalore Rural District on Thursday night.

The murdered woman has been identified as Sujatha alias Nithya (25), a resident of KIADB Housing Complex in Bommasandra. According to police, Sujatha's husband, Mani, an employee in a private factory, was on night shift on Thursday.

Mani's younger brother, Murugan, who stayed with the couple, tried to rape Sujatha.

When she resisted the attempt, Murugan allegedly throttled her.

To ensure that she was dead, he placed a live electric water heating coil on her body, police said. Mani, who learnt about his wife's murder on his return from work on Friday morning, informed the police. When police questioned Murugan, he initially feigned ignorance, but later confessed to the crime.

The Hebbugodi police have taken up a case of murder and arrested Murugan.

Girl drowned

Anitha (17), a garment factory employee and a resident of Garvebavipalya, was drowned in a tank in Madivala police station limits on Friday. The incident occurred in Bandepalya where Anitha had gone to wash clothes. When she did not return home till late in the night, her parents went in search of her and saw her body floating in the tank, police said.

Two die of burns

Vinutha (18), a resident of N.S.Palya in MICO Layout police station limits, suffered serious burns after her clothes caught fire when she was cooking at home on Saturday morning. She died in Victoria Hospital in the evening. An LPG leak is said to have sparked the fire, according to the police.

Police have taken up a case of unnatural death.

In another incident, Nethra (12) of Kadugodi in Bangalore Rural District, who suffered burns three days ago, died in hospital today. Her clothes came in contact with burning firewood at her home, police said.

Body found

The body of an unidentified man aged around 45 was found in a 12-ft. deep ditch at Sterling Poultry Farm at Mallasandra in Kadugodi police station limits on Saturday. Police suspect that he might have accidentally fallen into the ditch and died.
