After the death of the abducted former Minister, H. Nagappa, and the recent visit by members of the human rights organisation, People's Watch, to these places, personnel in Karnataka were said to have mounted extra vigil. For, they did not like the news of seizure of country boats, mainstay of the villagers, leaked out. The villagers are virtually kept under house arrest, their mobility having been restricted, more so during night, according to information reaching here. As a result, they could not graze cattle or protect goats and sheep from nocturnal animals. About 400 families have been living at Athoor, Appukambatti, Jamburutti, Kottaiyur and Alambadi, situated on the Karnataka side of the Cauvery, for more than five decades.
