South India Derby to be held on Jan. 15

CHENNAI JAN. 11. The South India Corporation South India Derby, the blue riband of the Madras racing season, will be held on the Pongal Day (January 15).

The Governor of Tamil Nadu, P.S.Ramamohan Rao, who will grace the proceedings will give away the coveted trophy. For the third year running, the Madras Race Club will extend the festival prize bonanza, said Mr.Dharma Ebenezer, Sercretary, Madras Race Club at a press conference. The members or their guests and patrons when entering the Race Course (both first and second enclosures) on that day, will be given one perforated lucky dip coupon. They will have to drop one half of the coupon in the box set apart for the purpose and retain the other half. There will be lucky draw on the track opposite the Grand Stand after the presentation of the Derby Trophy. The winner will be announced over the public address system.

The following are the prizes that are offered for the Pongal bonanza by the Madras Race Club. First prize: Max 100 Motorcycle; Second prize: 29" Colour Television; Third prize: TVS Champ Moped; Fourth prize: 310 litre Refregerator; Fifth prize: Automatic Washing Machine and the Sixth prize: Philips CD Player.
