Addressing a gram sabha at Brahmanakraka village of Jaladanki mandal, 65 kms from Nellore, on Saturday, Mr. Naidu claimed that Janmabhoomi was an inspiration and not just a routine programme. The Chief Minister maintained that his Government was keen to mould the State into a model one. He made a reference as to how events like "Prajala Vaddaku Palana' and "Shramdan'' preceded Janmabhoomi and said the latter concept was visualised to bring people more closer to the Government. It was with this view that an amount of Rs. 270 crores was earmarked for the present 18th phase of Janmabhoomi. Mr. Naidu, however wanted people to have a feedback out of various programmes of the Government. He referred to prevailing severe drought conditions and pointed out that at least in Nellore district water was available for one crop. At this juncture, a person in the audience shouted that water was not at all available and the Chief Minister had to convince him that it was not fair to project a wrong picture as the situation in Nellore district was a little better than in some of the other districts. The Chief Minister pointed as to how the Government had rescheduled the loans and written off interest in drought-prone areas. He drew the attention of people to the grim situation in the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar reservoirs. At the same time, he said the Government had geared up the machinery to meet the situation and emphasised the need to grow more crops with less quantity of water. Mr. Naidu promised that the Government was serious to attain the full water storage capacity of Somasila and Kandleru reservoirs of Nellore district and to complete the land acquisition with regard to Somasila. Even for Kavali canal, Rs. 14 crores had been granted under the accelerated improvement scheme and disclosed that the Northern canal also would be benefited. Mr. Naidu referred to his laying of foundation to pipe works at a cost of Rs. 7 crores at today's programme in the area and assured that within one year, the summer storage tank for Kavali would be ready. Mr. Naidu referred to the mid-day meal scheme and made an appeal to philanthropists to donate plates/vessels. The Chief Minister said villagers doing good work would always be encouraged. For the meal scheme in Brahmanakraka village, the Chief Minister, donated Rs. 2,000 and when he appealed for donations, there was virtually a "flood'' of announcements followed by on the spot donations ranging from a mere Rs. 100 to nearly Rs. 50,000. He wanted a proper account to be maintained for all donations. Mr. Naidu thanked people of the State for their co-operation to his Government's policies which helped him to enter the 8th year as the Chief Minister. He claimed that the development was made possible due to the TDP Government's commitment to the welfare of people.
