Pak. assails PM's proposal

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD Jan. 11. Pakistan today asserted that maintenance of the Sikh gurdwaras in the country was its responsibility and India had no locus standi. The Foreign Office, in a statement here, came down heavily on the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, for his reported statement suggesting discussions with Pakistan to enable the Indian Shiromani Gurdawara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) to take care of the gurdawaras in Pakistan.

It said ``that being the head of a political party that was one of the main forces behind the destruction of the historic Babri Masjid, Mr. Vajpayee's concern for the gurdwaras in Pakistan was contrived and propagandistic''.
