U.P. police raid house of dissident MLA's father

Pratapgarh Jan. 1. In the Mayawati Government's continuing drive against rebel MLAs in Uttar Pradesh, police raided the residence of the dissident legislator, Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya's father and invoked Gangsters Act against his confidant and Samata Party lawmaker, Raja Ram Pandey.

The raid was carried out raid at the residence of Raja Udai Pratap Singh, Raja Bhaiyya's father and erstwhile ruler of Bhadri Estate, on Tuesday night and broke open the locks of several rooms, according to a complaint lodged by one Sahdev, an employee of the residence, with the National Human Rights Commission today.

The owner of the house was not present at the time of the raid and the details about it would be known only after his arrival here, Sahdev told reporters here. However, police declined to comment on the issue.

Meanwhile, the Gangsters Act was invoked against Rajaram Pandey and his supporters for allegedly opening fire at a group of people during an altercation over the claim on a piece of land at Molanpur village.
