In a statement, Mohiuddin Shah, leader of the NC in the Legislative Assembly, said "the manner in which the decision has been taken runs counter to established norms of parliamentary practice''. This approach smacked of political opportunism, he alleged adding "while giving more powers of the LAHDC, the Government should have ensured the withdrawal of the demand for Union Territory status by the Ladakh Union Territory Front''. Also, the Front should have been dissolved.
