By Our Staff Reporter
Mr.Bhakt said social awareness about the disease was yet to make an impact on the younger generation, as a result of the changes in social relations. He said the collapse of the joint family system and the impact of globalisation had created impediments to the efforts to create awareness about AIDS. The Governor urged the AIDS Control Society to take up an awareness campaign along with rehabilitation of victims. The Health secretary, K.Ramamurthy, pinned the red ribbon on Mr.Bhakt. The project director of the State AIDS Control Society, M.N.Gunavardhan, and the Health Director, V.K.Rajan, were also present on the occasion. Various non governmental, voluntary and welfare organisations observed AIDS day with a variety of programmes. The Metropolitan Health and Cancer Care Research Centre launched its aids control activities today. The centre will take up various programmes to prevent the social isolation of AIDS victims and bring them into the mainstream. The director, K.Radhakrishnan, said the centre would join hands with similar organisations for rehabilitations of AIDS patients. Medical camps and blood test programmes will also be conducted.
