Doctor suspended for `sexual harassment'

KOZHIKODE DEC. 1. Following the submission of the report by the committee to inquire into the allegation of sexual harassment of a woman patient by a junior doctor at the Medical College Hospital here on November 29, the latter has been suspended from service for six months.

The Medical College Principal, M.R. Chandran, had ordered an inquiry into the incident and a committee consisting of Shirly Vasu, Raveendran and Najeeba Riaz had been constituted to examine the allegation.

The report says that the examination of the patient by the junior doctor was beyond the required norms.

A case has been filed at the Medical College police station by the complainant, Shija (25), wife of Prakashan of Kotooli here, against the duty doctor in Ward 23. According to her, who was undergoing treatment in the surgery ward for a thyroid operation, she was called for examination by the doctor concerned at 8.30 p.m. on November 29.

The allegation is that under the guise of examining her, the doctor, a post-graduate student, made sexual advances towards her.
