This Day That Age
Irwin Schenkman, noted American concert pianist, arrived in Bombay on the 1st of December by the R.M.S. "Canton." He had come to make a concert tour of this country, and planned to perform in a series of concerts spread over various cities. Mr. Schenkman was an unusual musician in that, besides being an excellent piano artist, he was deeply interested in philosophy too. This combination of interests had led to his being affectionately termed `the Philosopher-Pianist.' On arrival in Bombay, he disclosed that he was deeply interested in the ancient, as well as the modern, culture of India. Irwin Schenkman's first recitals were to be given in Bombay, with later ones to follow in Delhi, Calcutta, Hyderabad, and Madras. He also intended to visit Indian villages during the course of his tour.
