Keshev Misra emerges winner

COIMBATORE DEC. 1. In a dramatic turnaround of fortunes, Keshev Misra, who was lying 7 shots behind the overnight leader Saurabh Bahuguna, set a scorching pace to emerge a surprise winner (297) in the GKD Memorial gold Cup golf tournament held at the Coimbatore Golf Club, Chettipalayam here. Saurabh finished runner-up with a score of 298.

Saurabh literally threw the match away on the par 4 eighth hole due to some poor course management.

Keshev continued his good work with a spectacular recovery on the par 4 fifteenth hole in which he pulled his drive to the left rough.

Keshev dropped a shot on the 17th while Saurabh birdied in the hole to draw level.

As the contest went down to the wire, Keshev saved the par on the 18th hole with a fine bunker shot. Saurabh hit the green in two and was 20 feet from the pin, needing only a two putt to force a sudden death play-off.

However, nerves got the better of him as he putted weakly leaving him with a downhill five footer, which he missed, by more than a couple of inches.

Mr. D. Jayawardhanavelu, Chairman, Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd., gave away the prizes.

The results: 1. Keshev Misra (297), 2. Saurabh Bahuguna 298, 3. Manav Das 299.
