India, Belarus sign pacts on trade, technology

New Delhi Nov. 27. Marking a new phase in their bilateral ties, India and Belarus today signed an agreement to facilitate investments and help develop trade and commercial relations and a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in science and technology.

The two sides also agreed to intensify joint efforts to combat terrorism. The two accords were inked in the presence of the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, and his Belarusian counterpart, Gennadiy V. Novitski, after the two leaders held wide-ranging discussions that covered regional and international issues and topics of mutual concern. The entire gamut of bilateral relations came under focus during the talks, with both the sides underscoring the need to exploit the vast potential for enhanced economic cooperation. Mr. Novitski, who is on a four-day State visit, called on the President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the Vice President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, besides the External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha and the Defence Minister, George Fernandes. — PTI
