`Praja Chaitanya Jatha' a success, says CPI leader

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Nov. 27. Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, secretary of the State Council of CPI, on Wednesday said the "Praja Chaitanya Jatha'' organised by the party all over the State to highlight the Government's anti-people policies, pending irrigation projects and development of backward regions, was a "success''.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Sudhakar Reddy said that during the rallies people expressed dissatisfaction at the failure of the Government in fulfilling promises, anger at the increasing corruption and disappointment over the policies. In tune with the anti-establishment mood of the people, the State party would finalise an action programme at the executive meeting to be held on December 11 and 12. It would take the support from other Left parties in launching an agitation.

He said a rally and public meeting would be held here tomorrow which would be addressed by the CPI General Secretary, A. B. Bardhan, and Dasari Nagabhushan Rao, MP and national executive member of the CPI.

Mr. Reddy said the President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam's comments on taking the medicare facilities to the rural poor, should be an eye-opener for the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu. He welcomed the President's suggestions in this regard and criticised the State Government for following a policy that encouraged corporate hospitals and reduced access to medicare facilities to the poor, with introduction of user charges even in Government hospitals.

On the bomb blast incident near the Saibaba temple in Dilsukhnagar in the city, he traced it to cross-border terrorism. At the same time, he demanded a comprehensive enquiry into the killing of two youth by the police in an alleged encounter. He said human rights should be kept in mind while carrying out the campaign against terrorists.

Meanwhile, K. Narayana, assistant secretary of the State Council of the CPI, demanded recall of the Vice Chancellor of the Andhra University and extended support to the State bandh called by the students union tomorrow. The recall is necessary to bring back peace in the AU campus, he added.
