Punjab tops in FDI in textile sector

NEW DELHI: As many as 592 proposals for foreign direct investment in the textile sector have so far been approved since 1991. This translated into an inflow of about Rs. 3,400 crores. Punjab accounted for the maximum FDI with an inflow of Rs. 724 crores, followed by Maharashtra (Rs. 433 crores), Madhya Pradesh (Rs. 349 crores), Tamil Nadu (Rs. 285 crores), Gujarat (Rs. 263 crores), Karnataka (Rs. 235 crores) and Andhra Pradesh (Rs. 229 crores). This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Textiles, Basanagouda R. Patil, in a written reply to an unstarred Parliamentary question.
