Dismiss Krishna, BJP tells Governor

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore Nov. 27. The State unit of the BJP today urged the Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, to "dismiss''<149> the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, if he did not resign on his own for his "extra-constitutional activities''<149> such as payment of ransom to the forest brigand, Veerappan, and his contact <149>on mobile with the latter, <149>as revealed by the former Director General and Inspector General of Police, C. Dinakar, in a book released recently.

In a memorandum, a 20-member BJP delegation appealed to the Governor to order a CBI inquiry into the matter, including the source from which the ransom amount was collected, as the legislature was not informed.

According to the President of the State unit of the BJP, Basavaraj Patil Sedam, who led the delegation, the Governor was "informed" that the Government was trying to save a minister involved in the multi-crore stamp paper racket, which had underworld ramifications and affected the security of the country.

Mr. Sedam told The Hindu that the delegation had requested the Governor to go through the book and collect information through Intelligence.

The Governor reportedly said that he had secured a copy of the book authored by Mr. Dinakar, and would go through it.

The delegation which called on the Governor included the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Jagadish Shettar, B.S. Yediyurappa, MLC, and a number of office-bearers and legislators of the party.

The memorandum drew the attention of the Governor to revelations in the book such as collection of money by the Chief Minister, his friends, and son-in-law for the payment of ransom for the release of the Kannada matinee idol, Rajkumar, who was abducted by Veerappan, and also for the release of TADA detenus.
