Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Srinivasulu, who is said to have vacated the post of DG and IGP to facilitate the appointment of Mr. Dinakar "at the instance of the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna", described the remarks made against him in Mr. Dinakar's book, "Veerappan's Prize Catch: Rajkumar", as a bundle of untruths and fiction written by a disgruntled person. The book was not worth reading, he said. However, he would consult his advocates on whether to file a defamation case against Mr. Dinakar, he added. Mr. Srinivasulu said Mr. Krishna might be regretting his decision to appoint Mr. Dinakar the DG and IGP against the advice of many people, including him. He had told Mr. Krishna that Mr. Dinakar's appointment would be detrimental to the functioning of the Police Department, and he would be a liability. On Mr. Dinakar's statement that he was appointed by the court, Mr. Srinivasulu said a court would only give guidelines to the Government, and it was up to the latter whether or not to act on them. In the case of Mr. Dinakar, the court asked him to go back to the Central Administrative Tribunal while dismissing his contempt case against the Government. At this juncture, Mr. Krishna wanted to end the legal wrangle and appoint him to the post, according to Mr. Srinivasulu. Mr. Srinivasulu said Mr. Dinakar had no respect for anybody, as he was egocentric. He had a lust for power. As a police officer, he was a failure, and made no contributions to society, he added. Taking a dig at Mr. Dinakar's failure as DG and IGP to nab Veerappan, and referring to Rajkumar's abduction, Mr. Srinivasulu said the Government should have placed him under suspension.
